X-Men III

I was very disappointed.

Which I blame solely on knowing too much about the universe. And I also did not like the script. I think they didn't utilize characters to their fullest potential.

And never mind the fact I was all sorts of upset with who died....

But I did love Kelsey Grammer as The Beast. That was an excellent choice. Storm and Jean were hot, as always...despite the unnatural hair color [Jean].

Next on tap is probably The DaVinci Code. And after Pirates of the Caribbean II. Who doesn't love Johnny Depp and Keira Knightly?

Me: I'm watching some quality, academy award winning acting.

She knew exactly what I was talking about though. And that is one of many reasons why I love her.

This made me laugh so hard.

Man Rules

Anyone see the new Miller Lite commercials?

Especially the one about the 'You poke it you own it' rule.

Did anyone else go to a really dirty place in their mind when they heard that?

Let's Just Blame Them For Everything, Why Don't We?

Seriously.
Read the title of this article below and form an idea of what it is about. If you were like me, you probably thought along the lines of anti war protestors.

Wait until the end of the second paragraph.

Congress Bars Military Funeral Protesters
By JIM ABRAMS

WASHINGTON (AP) - Demonstrators would be barred from disrupting military funerals at national cemeteries under legislation approved by Congress and sent to the White House Wednesday

The measure, passed by voice vote in the House hours after the Senate passed an amended version, specifically targets a Kansas church group that has staged protests at military funerals around the country, claiming that the deaths were a sign of God's anger at U.S. tolerance of homosexuals.

The act ``will protect the sanctity of all 122 of our national cemeteries as shrines to their gallant dead,'' Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said prior to the Senate vote.

``It's a sad but necessary measure to protect what should be recognized by all reasonable people as a solemn, private and deeply sacred occasion,'' he said.

Under the Senate bill, approved without objection by the House with no recorded vote, the ``Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act'' would bar protests within 300 feet of the entrance of a cemetery and within 150 feet of a road into the cemetery from 60 minutes before to 60 minutes after a funeral. Those violating the act would face up to a $100,000 fine and up to a year in prison.

The sponsor of the House bill, Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., said he took up the issue after attending a military funeral in his home state, where mourners were greeted by ``chants and taunting and some of the most vile things I have ever heard.''

``Families deserve the time to bury their American heroes with dignity and in peace,'' Rogers said Wednesday before the Hosue vote.

The demonstrators are led by the Rev. Fred Phelps of Topeka, Kan., who has previously organized protests against those who died of AIDS and gay murder victim Matthew Shepard.

In an interview when the House bill passed, Phelps said Congress was ``blatantly violating the First Amendment'' rights to free speech in passing the bill. He said that if the bill becomes law he will continue to demonstrate but would abide by the restrictions.

Sen. Pat Roberts, a Republican from Kansas, said the loved ones of those who die have already sacrificed for the nation and ``we must allow them the right to mourn without being thrust into a political circus.''

In response to the demonstrations, the Patriot Guard Riders, a motorcyle group including many veterans, has begun appearing at military funerals to pay respects to the fallen service member and protect the family from disruptions.

More than a dozen states are considering similar laws to restrict protests at nonfederal cemeteries. The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit against a new Kentucky law, saying it goes too far in limiting freedom of speech and expression.

The bill is H.R. 5037

Pets

A 4 year old boy whose dying dog had just been put to sleep explained to his parents why he thought pets did not live as long as people. He said, "Everybody is born so they can learn to live a good life. Like loving everybody and being nice, right? Well, animals all ready know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long." - Pets: A Very Natural Story

A friend on mine had to put his dog to sleep earlier this month. I just found out about it and it made me think about pets. How these amazing creatures give us everything they have; a love and devotion so profound it is even now making me weepy, thinking about my pets. I miss the ones that are no longer with me. And it seems so unfair that we only get a decade (if we are lucky) to be with them. We want so badly to be selfish, to keep them with us forever. If only their bodies wouldn't give out so soon.

We had a Pomeranian named Zorro for almost 13 years. I remember the day he was put down. I was leaving for work and he was laying on one of my mother's coats by the front door. He loved my mom more than anyone, but I was definitely second. I knelt down and scratched his grey chin, and told him I loved him. And he looked at me with half closed eyes, enjoying the attention. That afternoon my mother took him to the vet. She and I cried that whole day.

A few years ago, I heard my dog Griffen (shepard/husky mix) barking in the back yard. I went to investigate what it was and found him cornering a very large raccoon against the chain link fence that surrounded the yard. I yelled at him to leave it alone, but he didn't listen. The raccoon attacked him, jumped on his chest and began to bite him, causing him to snarl and yelp....trying to dislodge it from his person. I don't remember consciously thinking about it, but I grabbed the pool vacuum pole that had been laying on the edge of the above ground pool. Then I began swinging it and stabbing at the raccoon, all while screaming for a) to get off my dog, and b) for someone inside my house to help me. The raccoon wasn't letting go, and I was about a second away from kicking it with my sh** kicker boots that I was wearing. It did drop off, before it came to that. I ushered my now limping dog away. At that point, my mom had come out of the house and is confronted with the sight of me crying (due to being scared) and her dog limping and bleeding. Then she starts crying when I tell her what happened. She tells me I shouldn't have done what I did, to get that close to raccoon (even though I was a pole length away). But that's the 'mom' in her. And I also know that had it been her, she would have done the exact same thing. Because all logic goes out the window when something you love is in danger.

We still have Griff. But he is getting on in years. His once mostly black coat is now tinged with grey. He's slower in getting up, but call him for dinner or a walk and you would swear he was 2 years old again.

After Z was gone, my mother said no more dogs. And that held true for almost a year until Kaylee the dachshund came into our lives. It's not that my mother didn't want any more dogs. She'd complain about the shedding and whatnot, but anyone can see that wasn't it. We love these creatures, and though great sometimes it seems only a fraction of how much they love us. The real question is how much can a heart take when we have to say goodbye over and over and over again?

Grief will not keep me from owning more pets throughout my life. I try to rejoice in the fact that I got to have them, if only for a little while. Even if I get a little sad walking through a pet store, or seeing another dog like one I used to have.

This is probably one of the longest posts I have ever written by myself. And I have made myself sad because of it. But my little dog Kira is behind me on the bed as I type this, curled up and resting, absolutely content just to be in the same room as me.

Your Baby I'll Be

In a few minutes it will be Mother's Day.

So go call her. [in the morning. I will not have you all blaming me for waking up your poor, dear mothers at almost midnight.] Chances are it's been a while, so call to say hi on her special day. Thank her for all that she has given you. Maybe it's your eyes, your smile, your sense of confidence, or your sense of wonder. She encouraged your talents, stood by you when you were right and gave you absolute hell if you were wrong. Who fixed the boo-boos of children and stuffed animals alike, and tended to the emotional hurts that no one could see. And cut your sandwiches just the way you wanted [diagonal]. Who always wants to know when you are coming home next [when gas prices go down], and who sends you little care packages in the mail for no other reason than she was thinking of you.

For no matter how old you get, you will always be her baby.

I love you, Mom. Happy Mother's Day.

p.s. Go and read PostSecret (but only until the 21st, as they change every week). There are some beautiful and sad postcards for Mother's Day this week.

Forever ago

While sitting the computer room one day, SB reached across RH's lap to try and retrieve her MP3 player. From my vantage point of sitting diagonally behind RH, all I could see was her hand magically appear from his lap area and begin groping around near his front pants pocket.

RH: What are you doing?
SB: I'm trying to get my MP3 Player.
Me: Is that what they're calling it now?
RH: Yeah baby.
SB: Shutup. Both of you.

Is that Sexual Harassment?

RH: Hell, some people might think I was harassing them, undressing them with my eyes, or staring at their chest and whatnot.
Me: [Points to face] I'm up here, Robert.

He wasn't really staring at my chest, as scrub tops aren't exactly the most revealing or conforming piece of clothing. It was pretty damn funny though.

$$$$$

Me: Your cut of my life insurance policy went up a little bit, thanks to my salary increase. But that still doesn't mean you can kill me.
S: Nah. It's still not enough to cover school.

It's nice to be loved :D
